Description
I've been documenting the conflict of the smaller native brown Douglas Squirrel, verses the big "non native" Grey Squirrel conflicts. Even though little brown "Mr. Bud" Douglas Squirrel is small, he has quite the personality. He doesn't want anyone on his deck. The Grey Squirrel knocked over my bird feeder, sending all the sunflower seeds into a confetti ridden pile of mess on my deck. Then the fighting began. As you will see, in other photos, Birds, and Mr. Douglas Squirrel fights anything and everything that gets in his way, or on his deck. Hehe
The Western gray squirrel (Sciurus griseus, ) is the largest tree squirrel in Washington, ranging from 18 to 24 inches in length. It has gray upper parts, a creamy undercoat, and its tail is long and bushy with white edges. This species is found in low-elevation oak and conifer woods in parts of western and central Washington. The Douglas squirrel, or chickaree (Tamiasciurus douglasii) measures 10 to 14 inches in length, including its tail. Its upper parts are reddish-or brownish-gray, and its under parts are orange to yellowish. The Douglas squirrel is found in stands of fir, pine, cedar, and other conifers in the Cascade Mountains and western parts of Washington

We have the Grey squirrel around here....and boy, am I glad we do NOT have the Douglas! I would fear for my little Bichon's welfare! This is such an interesting series of shots and quite comical too! Wonderful fun, Kym!....fv

Another great shot of the squirrels! That small one looks almost like a chipmunk -- I've never seen such a tiny squirrel before.
