This foxglove has a bit different look from the ones I've grown. Spiked (tall) flowers do have a tendency to fall over, but the weight of the cups just seem to overcome them! You have a pretty side capture here with all aligned cups or bells! The depth of field and colors are lovely. How lucky to catch a bee with your shot too. V/Pamela

Artist's Description

This Foxglove decided to go horizontal this nice summer day. Mr. Bee really loves the easy access to this "Foxy Fuchsia Flower". They really look like a set of musical bells in this non vertical position. Here's some of those details and facts about the Foxglove. I didn't know that, did you? hehe
Foxglove, also called Digitalis purpurea, is a common biennial garden plant that contains digitoxin, digoxin, and other cardiac glycosides. These are chemicals that affect the heart. Digitalis is poisonous; it can be fatal even in small doses. It was the original source of the drug called digitalis.
Foxglove is a native of Europe. It was first known by the Anglo-Saxon name foxes glofa (the glove of the fox), because its flowers look like the fingers of a glove. This name is also thought to be related to a northern legend that bad fairies gave the blossoms to the fox to put on his toes, so that he could muffle his footfalls while he hunted for prey. The legend may account in part for s...

About Kym Backland

Kym Backland

Capturing a moment in time, is one of the best emotions. I love seeing something thru the lens and holding it near you as long as you can. I like for that image to be caught by surprise. A pure emotion. That to me is usually the most interesting. Anyways.... Photography is my medium. I do enjoy photographing those "Funny Animals" I see along the way........Laughter gets you thru a lot of hard times...I appreciate you taking the time to see what I see..... As you might have noticed I have never written a biography about myself for over 2 years. I figured I had better write one now. I'm definitely not going to write my "BIO" in the third person, so that I sound more important than I really am. Should I warn you that I have "run on"...
